7 popular birth control methods.



1. Safe period
Only have sexual intercourse at certain times of the menstrual cycle. This is not very reliable. 

2. Coitus interruptus
Just before the male orgasm, he withdraws his penis from the vagina. This is not recommended due to its unreliability.


3. Vasectomy
With this method, the sperm ducts are cut and tied. It is very effective and quick, but note, it is non-reversible. 

4. Condom (sheath)
It is placed over the penis before sexual intercourse. It is effective and has the added advantage of protecting an individual against disease.

5. Diaphragm plus jelly 
It is a cup-shaped structure which is smeared with contraceptive jelly and placed into the vagina before sexual intercourse. This is very effective. 

6. Birth pill

It prevents ovulation and, therefore, if there is no egg released then no fertilization will occur. 

7. Intra-uterine device (I.U.D.) 
This is actually a loop, sponge or shield-like plastic device placed in the uterus by a doctor. Very effective but must be checked periodically as it can cause internal problems if used for a long time.
