German Measles (Rubella): Symptoms and treatment


German measles (Rubella) normally occurs in older children and young adults. Incubation period of two and  half weeks, followed by slight fever and body rash which disappears after three (3) days. Complications rare except in women during first four months of pregnancy, when there is a 20% chance of blindness, deafness or other serious defects in the baby.

Treatment
1. Mild analgesics, such as aspirin and paracetamol
2. For pregnant women, injection of gamma globulin within eight (8) days of exposure.
