Syphilis: Mode of transmission, Causative agent, Symptoms, Prevention and Control


Mode of transmission
Sexual intercourse with an infected person.

Causative agent
Spyrochaete bacterium(Treponema pallidum).

Symptoms 

1. Highly contagious in its early stages yet the person may not notice symptoms. 

2. May get a sore at the place of infection.

3. Later causes sores in the mouth and on the skin.

If untreated, may get anemia, fever, loss of weight pain in the bones and joints and eventually may lead to paralysis and insanity.

Prevention and control 
1. Avoid casual sex.
2. Males should wear a contraceptive sheath before sex.
3. Syphilis can be treated with antibiotics in the early stages.
