Breast cancer: Types, Causes, Symptoms, Prevention and Treatment


Breast cancer is one of the lethal cancers among women. It is actually the second highest cause of cancer deaths in women (Lung cancer is highest cause of cancer deaths in women) around the globe.
It is a cancer that manifests or starts from a tissue in the breast. It is very deadly!

Types of breast cancer and how they develops.
The types of breast cancer are:
1. Ductal carcinomas
2. Lobular carcinomas
Breast cancer often starts and manifest in certain cells found in the lining of the milk ducts and lobules that provides the ducts milk.
Ductal carcinomas are cancers that starts or manifest or develops from the ducts.
Lobular carcinomas are cancers that develops or begins from the lobules


Signs and Symptoms

1. Fluid flows out through the nipples.
2. Lump in the breast.
3. The lymph nodes swells.
4. Shortness of breath
5. The shape of the breast changes.
6. One of the breast becomes larger.
7. Pain in the armpit.
8. Rash around the nipple.
9. Inverted nipple
10. If lumps are felt in an individual's lymph nodes that are in her armpits then, the individual has developed breast cancer.



Risk factors

Risk factors as far as breast cancer is concern, are things that can possibly lead to the development of breast cancer.
Let us take a look at some of the risk factors:
1. Inadequate or lack of physical exercise.
2. Excessive alcohol intake
3. Ionising radiation
4. Older age
5. Obesity
Sometimes it may be as a result of genes an individual inherits from her parents.


Diagnosis.

Taking a biopsy of a lump is the known way to confirm if an individual is having a breast cancer or not.
After diagnosis, certain known tests would be carried out to check whether the breast cancer has spread to other body parts other than the breast. And also to determine the type of approach that can be helpful in eradicating the disease completely.



Prevention

1. Most people who are at high risk of getting breast cancer use medications like tamoxifen to prevent it.
2. Others high risk women on the other hand goes through special surgeries to remove breasts in order to prevent the development of the cancer.

Treatment

The following are some known breast cancer treatments:
1. Radiation therapy
2. Hormonal therapy
3. Chemotherapy
4. Surgery
5. Biological therapy
