Ghanaians do love meat and fish that is why most of the well known Ghanaian foods - example fufu, banku, tuozafi, etc - are often eaten with meat or fish.

However, there are certain popular foods in Ghana that are only plant based. So if you are a vegan or vegetarian and you somehow find yourself in Ghana, you might want to check them out.

1. Kelewele
Kelewele is food made of fried spice-seasoned riped plantain cubes. It is often referred to as plantain crisps in English.

2. Koliko (fried yam) with hot pepper.
Koliko is referred to as fried yam in English. Some people prefer eating just the koliko without pepper; others on the other hand prefer eating it with hot pepper.


3. Jollof rice.

Jollof rice can be cooked with fish, meat or just vegetables.
The one cooked with only vegetables is the best for vegetarians or vegans since meat or fish would be absent.



4. Red red.

The main ingredients for red red  include beans, red oil and sometimes gari. Red red is often eaten with fried plantain.


5. Roasted plantain with groundnuts.

Roasted plantain is often sold by the country side women in the afternoon. It is one of the healthiest plant based food you can possibly find in Ghana.
