Is Accra Safe? Yes it is!

Accra, the capital city, is known to be the most populated city in Ghana; it is the most busiest as well. But with all that, it still remains one of the most peaceful cities in West Africa, the whole of Africa and the world at large.

Firstly, most of its suburbs are extremely crime free; just a few are known to pose few crimes sometimes.

Secondly, Ghanaians are naturally welcoming, open, and very friendly, and the people in Accra are no exception.

Walking during the day and even the night is safe in almost all parts of the city but it is always important to keep an eye on your belongings because, just like any other city around the world, there are pickpockets.

No city in the the world is 100% safe and Accra, Ghana is no exception. That is why it is better to take precautions and always be very vigilant whenever you are in the city.

Now, I will share with you some tips that will ensure your safety in Accra even though there is nothing to worry about because Accra is a very safe city. But as the saying goes: prevention is better than cure.

Go for public transportations (trotro in the local dialect) during the day and an Uber or any other online taxi service during the night. If you are not a budget traveler and you can afford an Uber or other online taxi service, then go for it, it is a great idea.

Do not walk alone at places—especially off the grid ones— where less to no  people can be found around. If you have got a friend who is a native, fine, you can walk with him or her anywhere you feel like exploring irrespective of the nature. You want to walk around alone?–walk in open places where you can see several people also moving around; the sides of the main roads are safe as well, just make sure you look out for vehicles.

Are you a nightlife enthusiast? If yes, then, you should probably choose nightclubs with good security or the ones with a voilence-free reputation. Several nightlife spots in Osu, for example, are known to be really safe, cool and violence-free. Read this article of mine: Osu, Accra, Ghana, the home of nightlife.
