5 ways to prevent kidney stones

1. Stay hydrated always.
Drinking lots of fluids like water and citrus beverages, can aid in the dilution of substances that causes kidney stones.

2. Consume the right amount of calcium.
Your calcium intake should be appropriate for your age. Too much or too little amount of calcium in your system can cause oxalate levels to rise and when oxalate level rises, kidney stones are formed. Get your calcium from foods, avoid calcium supplements because they are known to be one of the main causes of kidney stones.

3. Cut or reduce sodium intake.
Excessive consumption of foods that are high in sodium can result in the increase of the amount of sodium in urine. Too much sodium in urine can cause kidney stones.

4. Avoid or reduce the consumption of animal products.
Uric acid just like oxalate and phosphorus, can cause kidney stones. Staying away from red meat, eggs, poultry, seafood, milk and any other animal product is known to be helpful in reducing uric acid in the human body.

5. Stay away from foods that are known to cause kidney stones.
Tea, spinach, rhubarb, beets, and chocolates contain huge amounts of oxalate; colas contains high amount of phosphate. Both phosphate and oxalate are known to be the cause of most kidney stones cases.
