12 Causes of burning sensation in the stomach


Burning sensation in the stomach is one of the worst feelings or sicknesses anyone could catch; it makes you feel like the whole of your stomach is going to burn away completely. 

  Knowing the cause of a problem means 90% of that problem is solved; knowing why or what makes your stomach burn means getting rid of it would be very easy.

Here are 12 causes of burning sensation in the stomach:

1. Indigestion.

Most cases of a burning sensation in the stomach is as a result of indigestion. Eating food that has gone bad, overeating, and eating foods that are too spicy are a few situations that can result in indigestion.

2. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

This disease brings about acid reflux. Acid reflux is when acid moves from the stomach up into the gullet (oesophagus). This phenomenon causes intense burning sensation in the stomach. This burning sensation is not only felt in the stomach but in the chest as well.

3. Alcohol.

Alcohol can have a whole lot of negative effects on your health including burning sensation in the stomach. It can be very irritating to the stomach as well so be very careful in its consumption.

4. Diary.

Individuals who are lactose intolerant must be very careful when consuming any diary product especially milk, it could be very bad for your stomach.

5. Peptic ulcers.

Peptic ulcer is a sore that eats through the lining of the stomach. One of its symptoms is burning pain. If you are experiencing a burning pain in your stomach that persists for a long time, you should consider seeing your doctor so you would be checked out if it may be the cause.

6. Certain stomach infections.

For example, a stomach infection caused by helicobacter pylori—a bacteria—often results in burning stomach. 

7. Stomach Cancer.

Cancer of the stomach, apart from it symptoms like vomiting and fatigue, causes heartburns and stomach burn as well.

8. Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications.

These medications can cause burning sensation in the stomach whenever they have been taken in. Example of these medications are ibuprofen, naproxen, aspirin, celecoxib, and oxaproxin.

9. Smoking.

Smoking affects not just the respiratory system but almost all the various parts of the body including the the digestive system, the stomach to be precise. Heavy smoking can make your stomach burn really bad.

10. Hernia.

There are different types of hernia; the ones that happen in or near the stomach are known to cause burning sensations in the stomach.

11. Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

This intestinal disorder brings about discomfort in the abdomen and also causes burning stomach.

12. Gastritis.

Gastritis is a disease that causes swelling of the lining of the stomach. These swellings are said to cause intense burning sensations.
